I’ve been active on many social media platforms for almost 20 years. How is that even possible? lol But yesterday around 3pm ET something happened and it was like a lightning bolt went through my brain. 🧠
I received a message from one of the most popular platforms – let’s just call it F. #iykyk The message loosely reads “Hi Marcia, Your F account has been suspended.” Not much in the rest of that politely written paragraph resonated with me. I’m almost sure my eyeballs popped out of my head in shock and disbelief. What exactly did this mean?⚡
Well friends it means I have no access to my personal profile and I cannot access my business groups nor business pages on that platform – oh and this includes their very popular messaging platform as well. So, what does a girl like me who’s been working this social platform to create relationships, new business partners, new collaborators and quite frankly to keep social with thousands of people around the globe? First step…of course, you “appeal”, but from what I’ve read this could be a lengthy process. So what’s next?
In your head you hear the words of two of your favorite business and social strategists – Brenda Ster and Becky Launder “Don’t forget you’re playing for free on someone else’s platform and god forbid if they ever take that away where will you show up and how will you show up with your business?”. And for 5 years I’ve been paying attention to those words and in these last 24 hours am I ever glad I did.
Truthfully while I’m on the majority of social platforms I haven’t been as active nor strategic with them but I do show up and I do share a mix of content about myself and my businesses. And today dear reader, things are about to change. Big time.
